UNIT 2 – THINKING
How does the brain think?
Communication Networks
The cells in your brain (neurons) are connected together in a network. When you are thinking, these cells are all talking to each other through trillions of connections in this network. (That's more than 1,000,000,000,000 of them!)

Messenger Chemicals
The neurons communicate using chemical messages. When it gets stimulated-by something from outside, like something touching your skin, or from other cells in the brain-it fires off a signal and then sends out a chemical message to other neurons.

Speed of the Messages Messages can travel as fast as 1000 feet per second, or 680 miles an hour, the speed of a fast jet plane. Then the brain turns the signals into thoughts or actions.Learn more
