UNIT 4 - TYPES OF MEMORY
There are three different kinds of memory, each lasting a different amount of time:
Sensory memory is like an echo of what you see, hear, or feel. It lasts only up to a second.
Working memory is like a scratch pad for your brain-it's the place you hold information while you put it together with other information. It can only hold about 5-7 things at a time, and lasts a few seconds to a few minutes. Only things you pay attention to go into working memory.
Long-term memory is where permanent memories are stored. These memories can last a lifetime. Only information that goes into working memory first can get into long-term memory. These memories form when you repeat or practice something, or when it is very important to you.
